Events
In the last 6 years, I have participated in more than 20 science outreach events with Speech Lab Groningen, most frequently helping with the organisation and coordination of our activities. Among others, these activities include demos using ultrasound tongue imaging to explain speech motor control to both adults as well as children. You can see some highlights here and the full list below. Most events since 2021 featured SPRAAKLAB, the mobile laboratory of the Faculty of Arts, University of Groningen.
At many of these events, we also collected data that later resulted in published scientific works presented at some of the biggest conferences in our field. These are listed here (marked with ♠).
Lowlands Science
2018, 2019 & 2024
Lowlands Science is part of the Lowlands music & performing arts festival. Every year, 15-20 research teams from across the Netherlands take part. It was recently featured in Nature as a science communication example.
Zwarte Cross 2022
The largest festival in the Netherlands (and the largest motor event in the world). In 2022, we did demos and a study in the “Blagenparadijs” (the children’s area of the festival).

2022 & 2024
Festival della Scienza is an annual science festival in Genoa, Italy, and one of the biggest events of science communication in Europe, attracting over 200.000 visits every year.
Noorderzon
2021, 2022 & 2023
The Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival is an annual fetival in Groningen, The Netherlands. It draws between 130.000 – 150.000 visitors over a period of nearly two weeks.
